WWE News: Tommy Dreamer Talks about Broken Matt Hardy
What's the story?
Tommy Dreamer in a recent interview with Wrestling Inc stated his opinions about Matt Hardy and what he thinks might be the future of the "Broken" gimmick. He also talked about the potential of Matt and Jeff Hardy, and what the brothers can achieve whilst in the WWE.
In case you didn't know...
Matt Hardy, who worked with Impact Wrestling during 2016-17 debuted a new gimmick on the show and called himself "Broken Matt Hardy". He dyed his hair half white, talked in an eccentric accent and started doing whacky antics.
He quickly captured the fancy of fans all around and made it one of the most successful gimmicks to come in as of late.
Matt was lauded by fans and Superstars all around for his innovative ideas; however, due to a change in management and dispute between Hardy and Anthem Sports - who were the new owners of Impact Wrestling- Matt Hardy left Impact.
Matt Hardy returned to the WWE at WrestleMania 33 winning the Tag Team Championships along with his brother Jeff.
Due to the ongoing legal battle for the trademark of the "Broken" Gimmick, this gimmick was not used in the WWE up until last week on RAW when Matt started showing signs of his Broken Personna.
The Heart of the Matter
Tommy Dreamer, who is a good friend of Matt Hardy said that Matt was essentially the last good thing in TNA because his character was so unique and different. He appreciated how Matt always used to be in character all the time, especially on Social Media.
Here is an excerpt from his interview:
"Hey I have shows, you’re booked on them unless someone’s gonna pay you more money.’ Matt was, just like me, killing it all over wrestling every weekend on the indies. But he was the hottest character, and if they give him that freedom and let him be him with that, he’ll become one of the hottest stars they have again"
What's next?
Matt Hardy teased the advent of this gimmick after his match with Bray Wyatt this week on RAW. It looks like WWE will finally be going ahead with this persona of Matt, even though it is being speculated that the name "Broken" might not be used.
Author's take
I have been a huge fan of the Broken Gimmick and just like many other fans, I was hoping that this gimmick makes it's debut on WWE soon.
Matt Hardy hasn't been used well by the WWE ever since Jeff was injured, so hopefully, this will be the boost Matt's career needs to get back on the right path.
