WWE News: Top Indy names linked with WWE; Walter and Keith Lee to wrestle at WrestleMania Axxess event
What's the story?
Walter and Keith Lee have both recently been rumored to have signed with the WWE and although both have publicly denied it the following WWE.com announcement stating they'll both be wrestling at the WrestleMania Axxess event will do nothing to quieten down those rumors.
In case you didn't know...
Walter and Keith Lee are two of the bigger names on the independent circuit, both literally and in notoriety which is why there was quite a lot of buzz generated when they were linked to WWE in one of Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Newsletters. However, both wrestlers denied these claims.
The heart of the matter
Whilst it's unclear whether or not Lee and Walter have been offered WWE contracts, we do know that they will definitely be wrestling for WWE at their Axxess event thanks to an announcement on WWE.com that will see both men face off with NXT's Kassius Ohno during a four day set of invitational tournaments.
Keith Lee will be facing Kassius Ohno on the first day of the event, and he'll be defending his WWN Championship as well
In addition, the session will feature a WWN Championship Match between titleholder Keith Lee and NXT’s Kassius Ohno as well as action featuring 205 Live Superstars TJP, Kalisto, Gentleman Jack Gallagher and Buddy Murphy, Superstars from the Mae Young Classic, and much more!
Walter will be taking his turn to clash with Ohno on the third day of Axxess matches, no titles are up for grabs on this one
Day 3, Session 3 will include the U.K. Championship Invitational Finals, the NXT Tag Team Invitational Finals and the NXT Women’s Invitational Finals, as well as NXT’s Kassius Ohno vs. PROGRESS’ Walter.
What's next?
Now I know that Walter and Keith Lee have denied being offered contracts by WWE but they've clearly got some sort of deal in place with them. Whether that deal was just for them to wrestle at Axxess or a more permanent agreement we'll have to wait and see. Although typically wrestlers who appear at the WWE Axxess event have gone on to become full-time wrestlers with the company.
Author's take
And here I was thinking that WWE's WrestleMania weekend couldn't get any better and they know and book Kassius Ohno against two of the best indy wrestlers on the planet today.
