WWE News: Torrie Wilson talks reaction to WWE's phone call regarding HoF induction
What's the story?
Torrie Wilson recently appeared on Jim Ross' podcast, "The Jim Ross Report".
Torrie stated that when the WWE Talent Relations executive Mark Carrano called her, she was expecting to get invited to the Hall of Fame ceremony.
In case you didn't know. . .
Torrie Wilson was recently named as one of the inductees in this year's WWE Hall of Fame Class.
Torrie was one of the most popular women in WCW during the Monday Night Wars. She came into the WWE when Vince McMahon bought WCW, a week before WrestleMania 17. She was mostly used as eye candy and was featured heavily in the so-called "bathroom break" matches on television and PPV's.
A part of the WWE Universe didn't seem to be too thrilled on Torrie's induction, citing the above-mentioned reasons. WWE Hall of Famer Booker T went on to slam the critics who spoke against Torrie's induction. Torrie herself explained that she did what she was told by the higher-ups to do.
The heart of the matter
On Ross' podcast, Torrie Wilson shared her reaction on receiving the news of her induction.
Yes, I was [surprised about the induction]! Actually, Mark Carrano called me and I was on a retreat. And I thought he was calling me to invite me to watch the show and he kind of threw me for a little loop there. Yeah, I was definitely surprised!
What's next?
Torrie Wilson is spot on when she says that she did what she was told to do. In a ruthless business like professional wrestling, one can't just refuse to do whatever they're told to do, and not expect consequences, like getting fired for example. The segments Torrie was a part of, and the specialty matches she wrestled, were done with her consent and she was comfortable doing them, and that's all that matters.
Although she can't be compared to the likes of Trish and Lita, she was one of the most recognizable faces in WWE during the early 2000s.
