WWE News: Tournament bracket for Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic revealed
What's the story?
The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic has been a tradition of WWE NXT since 2015. It will take place once again this year, with the first-round matches starting next week on NXT. The tournament will include eight top tag teams and the winners will challenge the NXT Tag Team Champions the War Raiders at NXT Takeover: New York.
In case you didn't know...
The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic has been an important part of NXT. Top tag teams like Finn Balor & Samoa Joe, the Authors of Pain, and the Undisputed Era have won this tournament in the past.
Other tag teams like #DIY, SAnitY, TM-61, and the Revival made a big name for themselves as part of the competition. The tournament is considered to be so prestigious that singles superstars made makeshift teams such as Finn Balor and Samoa Joe, Baron Corbin and Rhyno, Kota Ibushi and TJP, Austin Aries and Roderick Strong, Andrade and Cedric Alexander, and Roderick Strong and Pete Dunne just to be a part of the tournament.
This year's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic involves eight top tag teams. Four of those teams were revealed in last week's episode of NXT. These teams were the Street Profits, the Forgotten Sons, the Undisputed Era, and Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel. Four of those were revealed last night on NXT and they were Moustache Mountain, Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch, #DIY, and Aleister Black and Ricochet.
The heart of the matter
On last night's edition of NXT, the bracket and the first round matches for the tournament were revealed as well. These eight top tag teams will participate in a number of matches on NXT for the next few weeks until NXT Takeover: New York.
The first round matches include the Forgotten Sons vs Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan, Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner vs Aleister Black and Ricochet, Moustache Mountain vs the Street Profits, and #DIY vs the Undisputed Era.
What's next?
This tournament is normally a highlight on NXT TV and it is expected to be featured prominently this year as well. Aleister Black & Ricochet, the Undisputed Era, and #DIY are the favorites to win the tournament.
