WWE News: Triple H comments on dinner meeting with Ronda Rousey
What's the story?
As reported by ESPN, Triple H addressed his recent dinner meeting with Ronda Rousey; asserting that they don’t have any announcement to make as of yet.
Additionally, Rousey was probed on the meeting by TMZ as she left the diner, in response to which she jested about being there just for the fine dining.
In case you didn’t know…
‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey is widely regarded as a WMMA (Women’s Mixed Martial Arts) pioneer, and is a former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion.
Rousey previously appeared at Wrestlemania 31 in a segment with The Rock against Triple H & Stephanie McMahon. While Rousey has time and again reiterated her love for WWE and the sport of professional wrestling, the belief is that she’s now ready to transition from the sport of MMA to the WWE’s world of sports-entertainment.
The heart of the matter
Triple H stated the following on him meeting up with Ronda Rousey over dinner in Los Angeles, California—
"We are talking to Ronda, as we've been for a while…She has a lot of things going on, (and) we have a lot of things going on, but we have a great relationship with her, a very friendly standpoint for a long period of time now. It was great to catch up with her. We have nothing to announce at this time.”
Furthermore, Triple H explained that Rousey is a huge fan of and interested in what the WWE does, besides also looking into the opportunities that lie in the WWE. The Game added that the WWE are also great fans of Rousey, and incredibly interested in potentially working with her.
Nevertheless, Triple H continued that, presently, there are a lot of things to walk through before a potential Rousey stint in WWE, and that they’re just having conversations at this stage. On the other hand, Ronda Rousey provided a brief statement on the meeting, stating that she was just there as she enjoys fine dining.
What’s next?
Ronda Rousey currently has no plans of returning to the UFC, and while she hasn’t announced her retirement from the sport of MMA, most fans and experts believe that the ‘Rowdy’ one is done with MMA.
With the historic first-ever All-Women’s Royal Rumble match set to take place later this month, Rousey is rumoured to be making her debut as a WWE Superstar in the match. Pro-wrestling pundits believe that Rousey may indeed partake in the matchup as a surprise entrant, and the reason behind WWE and Rousey keeping her appearance under wraps is to enhance the intrigue and surprise factor during the Royal Rumble PPV event.
Author’s take
Honestly speaking, Triple H and Ronda Rousey playing down talk of her rumoured WWE debut at the Royal Rumble seems to be a work.
Although Rousey has a few Hollywood obligations to fulfil this month, a one-off appearance for the Women’s Royal Rumble wouldn’t be out of the realm. Besides, Rousey is unlikely to work a full-time schedule in WWE, irrespective of when she debuts.
