WWE News: Triple H reveals which TakeOver match he thinks will be hard to follow
What's the story?
With the biggest weekend in professional wrestling less than a week away, everyone is waiting with bated breath for the weekend to get started with NXT TakeOver: New York.
Triple H recently spoke with ESPN about the upcoming event and revealed just which bout he feels will steal the show at TakeOver, the 2-Out-of-3 Falls Match for the vacant NXT Title. SEScoops.com provided a transcript of the interview.
In case you didn't know . . .
Due to an unfortunate neck surgery that required immediate surgery, NXT Champion Tomasso Ciampa had to relinquish the title, putting his likely showdown with Johnny Gargano on hold.
In the interim, Triple H announced that the winner of a Fatal 5-Way match would face Johnny Gargano in a 2-Out-of-3 Falls Match at TakeOver: New York.
The heart of the matter
The injury to Ciampa caught a lot of people off guard since he had also been unexpectedly called up to the main roster shortly after the Royal Rumble.
As a way to address the situation and provide TakeOver with an NXT Title match, Triple H announced two weeks ago that Matt Riddle, Adam Cole, Ricochet, Aleister Black and the Velveteen Dream would all battle for the chance to face Gargano at TakeOver: New York for the NXT Title.
Adam Cole ended up winning the match and set himself up to bring credence to his claim that all of the Undisputed Era would be holding gold in 2019.
Since two of the top stars in all of WWE would be fighting for the right to be the next NXT Champion, Triple felt that, as in the past, it would be a hard match to follow for the rest of the weekend of action.
“I expect it to be hard to follow for the weekend. I don’t mean that as a knock on anybody, it’s just the level of talent there and the emotional storytelling component. It’s probably two of the guys, if you said to me, ‘Name two of the most consistent performers at all levels on any on the rosters that, no matter what, they’re going to knock it out of the park,’ it would be tough for me to come up with bigger names than Gargano and Adam Cole.”
Gargano had been teaming with Ciampa during the Dusty Rhodes Classic but it was expected that one man would turn on the other. Before Ciampa could even finish his assault, Gargano got the upper hand after they lost by preventing an attack from Ciampa.
What's next?
It's hard, but wrestling fans have to be patient for the actual events to take place next weekend. WWE will still wrap some things up on Raw, SmackDown and NXT before the entire card is made official.
The Gargano/Cole match should be one of the best, if not the best matches of the weekend. It will certainly be hard for any match at WrestleMania to live up to that matches' likelihood of stealing the show during WrestleMania weekend.
