WWE News: Triple H talks criticism of Brock Lesnar-Goldberg match, new UK championship and more
WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative, Triple H, made a blockbuster announcement in London yesterday about a tournament for the new UK championship.
Post the conference where he introduced the newest championship in the WWE, ‘The Game’ spoke with Newsweek about how things would work out with the U.K. title and a number of other topics.

He was asked whether the U.K. championship tournament marked the beginning of the WWE introducing more localised championship in other regions as well. Triple H said that the WWE network is making the world a small place and also claimed that the U.K. is now home to them with the new title coming into existence. Here’s what he was quoted as saying:
The WWE Network allows us to do things that weren’t possible for us to do before—the world becomes a smaller and smaller place because of that, you connect to everyone at the same time. We’ve been in the U.K. for 30 years, we’ve built up a demand for the product here. To come in and super-serve them, this puts our foot on the ground. It won’t be our home away from home; it will be our home. This solidifies that.
Speaking about the plans for how they will proceed with the championship in the future, ‘The Cerebral Assassin’ revealed the intent of putting together a weekly show around it involving athletes based in the U.K. However, the participants will also be free to work on the independent circuit if they want.
“We’re seeing what this will become. It’s not a science yet. The hope is it becomes its own weekly show, based out of the U.K., with U.K. talent. Those talents will still be able to perform within the [independent companies] RevPros, ICWs and Progress’s,“ Triple H said.
“As those talents are working [in the U.K.] and moving up [in the industry], we’re helping RevPro, ICW and Progress to grow and help cultivate their talent pool as well. Before it was a pipedream that you’d make it beyond the U.K. or the indie scene to the WWE. Now there’s a clear path to do it,” he added.
‘The Game’ was questioned about the criticism received by the match between Brock Lesnar and a returning Goldberg at Survivor Series, where the latter crushed the ‘Beast Incarnate’ in under 2 minutes. Here’s what he had to say in response:
“People never saw it coming. When you shock them, they’re angry that you shocked them. When you don’t shock them, they say it’s too predictable.”
On the possibilities of roping in U.S. President Donald Trump to be a special guest at Wrestlemania 33 considering his past association with the WWE, Triple H said that Trump must be having a packed schedule at present but claimed that anything is possible with the WWE.
“I have a feeling his schedule might be packed… but who knows? Never say never in the WWE,” the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion told Newsweek.
