WWE News: Trish Stratus confirms Paige's retirement
What's the story?
During an interview with Lilian Garcia on her Chasing Glory podcast, recent WWE Women's Royal Rumble entrant and all-time great Women's Champion, Trish Stratus, confirmed that Paige was retired from in-ring competition.
In case you didn't know...
Several wrestling news sites have reported that Paige won't wrestle again for the WWE, having suffered an injury during a house show in December that has resulted in WWE doctors not being able to clear her to compete.
Paige was pulled out of the Royal Rumble Match, with WWE only announcing that Paige was injured so couldn't be in it, and Paige cutting one backstage promo mentioning a vague injury.
Neither Paige nor the WWE have officially confirmed that Paige has retired from in-ring competition.
The heart of the matter
Nevertheless, Lilian Garcia and Trish Status discussed Paige's WWE status on the podcast, and Trish Stratus seemed to indicate that Paige was definitely done with wrestling for the company, as reported by Cageside Seats.
Trish Stratus was on Lilian Garcia’s podcast and they mentioned Paige is retired as previous reports have indicated and she told them WWE is going to find something else for her to do.
Trish Stratus also stated that the company would 'find something else for her to do' meaning that we could see Paige continue her role as manager for the other two members of Absolution, Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose.
What's next?
I think most of us were expecting a retirement speech in the middle of the ring from Paige on Monday Night RAW following the news breaking of her in-ring career being over, but it didn't happen.
For whatever reason, the WWE have decided to keep details of this scarce. However, I imagine at some point they will be forced to tell the WWE Universe Paige's full status and allow her to have that moment in the ring where she breaks the news.
Author's take
This whole situation is just a bit weird for me. Stratus was around the WWE for a week with the RAW 25th Anniversary show and Royal Rumble pay-per-view, and already she knows more about Paige's situation than the WWE has actually publicly revealed.
