Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin lost their last match against the Usos amidst controversy
Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin lost their last match against the Usos amidst controversy

What's the story?

Ever since Gable and Benjamin lost last week's tag team title match on SmackDown Live, the team have been asking for justice. On this week's SmackDown Live broadcast, they came out to the ring to have their grievances answered. When they called out the referee responsible for restarting their match on the previous show, Daniel Bryan came out instead.

He confronted them and later announced a special stipulation title opportunity for them at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

In case you didn't know...

During the title bout, Gable pinned Jey Uso and the team of Gable and Benjamin were awarded the tag titles. However, a referee came out from the back to show the instant replay, which revealed that neither Gable nor Jey Uso, were the legal tag partners when the pin took place. The referee restarted the match with the Usos going on to defeat their opponents and retain the Tag Championships.

The heart of the matter

During their confrontation, when Chad Gable asked Bryan if he wanted them to defeat the Usos twice in one night, Daniel Bryan took the idea and made a match out of it. He put Gable and Benjamin in a Title Match against the Usos at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, in a 2 out of 3 falls match.

The Usos reacted to the announcement backstage in an interview. They were upset with the decision because they felt they had nothing to prove and had already defeated Benjamin and Gable.

They went on to say that Gable and Benjamin had no chance against them, and they better 'come correct' at the Rumble.

What's next?

The Usos are set to defend their titles against Benjamin and Gable at the Royal Rumble in a 2 out of 3 falls match on the 28th January.

Author's take

The Usos have put on some of the best matches in the tag team division this past year. Benjamin and Gable are a talented tag team who, with their new heelish attitudes, could become a challenge for the current tag champions.

The two teams have good chemistry and their match at the Rumble could turn out to be spectacular.
