WWE News: Update on Goldberg's WWE deal
This past week on Raw, Paul Heyman returned and put over Goldberg big time, and then told Goldberg that Brock Lesnar wanted to get rid of the one spot where he had been defeated and not gotten the victory back. This led to him challenging Goldberg to a match against The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar. Goldberg took to twitter to respond:
Booking my flight to answer that big mouth @HeymanHustle 's challenge next week in person on #MondayNightRaw #WhosNext? #seeyathere @WWE
— Bill Goldberg (@Goldberg) October 11, 2016
For the first time in 12 years, Goldberg will return to Monday Night Raw in Denver, Colorado.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE put together the deal for Goldberg over the course of the past few weeks, and the deal was finalised last week.
As of the time of writing this, the match is booked for Survivor Series against Lesnar and will be a one-off. It may turn out to be more than that depending on the reaction to the build-up and match itself.
There are reportedly still issues between Goldberg and WWE from his first stint, as it was considered by WWE Officials as a disappointment. However, time heals wounds. As mentioned, whether this turns out to be a one-off or not depends on the reaction Goldberg gets.
Meltzer brought up an interesting point that the reception he gets in Survivor Series at Toronto will be interesting for two reasons – 1)He was once booed in Toronto, and; 2)He ended Bret Hart’s career.
We will have to wait and see how Toronto decides to receive Goldberg. Goldberg has said in the past and recently as well that he would like to rectify the ending of his first WWE run, which was his match with Lesnar where both men got booed out of the building in Wrestlemania XX in Madison Square Garden.
The hostile reaction to him and Lesnar was due to the fact that the news broke out that both men would be leaving WWE after that match. However, it is a second chance for not only Lesnar but mainly for Goldberg, who will be returning to the ring after 12 years.
Meltzer further speculated that they will go all out to make sure the build is good and to ensure that the match itself doesn’t turn out to be a dud.
