WWE News: Update on Street Profits NXT status after RAW appearance
What's the story?
Under Paul Heyman's first night in charge of RAW, we saw a hot opening segment that led to both Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley get hurt while also seeing the reigning NXT Tag Team Champs show up backstage during RAW.
On the RAW Results article on WWE.com, a brief piece of the article suggested that the Profits are still members of the NXT roster for the time being. 411mania.com carried news of the report from WWE.com.
In case you didn't know . . .
Angelo Dawkins is one of the longest-tenured Superstars in NXT. He didn't really find his footing until he formed the Street Profits team with the ultra-charismatic Montez Ford. They had unsuccessfully challenged for the NXT Tag Team belts on numerous occasions but they finally captured them at NXT XXV in June.
The heart of the matter
RAW was certainly run with a different formula last night than the usual paint-by-numbers way it has been booked for much of 2019. Having the Street Profits show up was certainly an entertaining and welcome surprise.
While they didn't confront any Superstars, they simply announced their RAW debuts by saying that they wanted to bring swag back to RAW. It was unclear if they had been 100% called up as they were still NXT Champions.
At another point during the night, Paul Heyman was being interviewed backstage but was interrupted by the Profits. They attempted to vibe with Heyman and they patted him on the back and head. He was clearly uncomfortable with the whole interaction.
According to the RAW Results article released on WWE.com, "their confrontation showed that Paul Heyman just wasn’t receptive to them. It doesn’t mean they shouldn’t come back sometime soon.”
Even though Heyman appeared uncomfortable with the Profits, other reports have mentioned that Heyman is really a huge fan of Dawkins and Ford. That was likely the reason for the interaction. WWE.com still lists them as a part of NXT and not RAW, but things could change in the coming days. First things first, they need to drop the titles in NXT before fully becoming members of RAW.
What's next?
Heyman's first night in charge was an upgrade over most RAW episodes this year. The segments were different and different stars were shown. There was still another 2-out-of-3 Falls match, but this was a positive step forward.
The Profits are one of the most entertaining teams in WWE and really came into their own over the last year. It would have made more sense to add them to the struggling SmackDown Tag Team division, however.
