WWE News: Update on the potential Royal Rumble appearance of Chris Jericho

Jericho might not return at Royal Rumble
Jericho might not return at Royal Rumble

What’s the story?

Former WWE champion Chris Jericho is booked for a tour date with his band Fozzy on 28 January 2018. This apparently rules out the chances of Jericho making a return to the WWE at Royal Rumble.

In case you did not know…

Jericho’s last appearance for WWE was back in July when he competed in a triple threat match which also featured Kevin Owens and AJ Styles. A few months later, Jericho showed up at New Japan Pro Wrestling and announced that he will be facing Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12.

The Omega vs Jericho match turned out to be a huge success story and in the night that followed, Jericho attacked Tetsuya Naito. The exact direction of the Jericho – Naito storyline is yet to be known.

The heart of the matter

According to Fozzy’s official website, the band will be performing in Paris, France on January 28. The event is part of Fozzy’s tour in association with Steel Panther.

The band does not have any tour dates prior to this but has dates lined up throughout February, March, and April. Interestingly, New Japan Pro Wrestling’s New Beginning in Sapporo happens on 27th January.

What’s next?

WWE Royal Rumble will take place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on January 28th.

Just a week before the show, WWE will be rolling out their 25th Anniversary episode of Monday Night Raw. Jericho’s availability for the latter and his future in NJPW still remains a big question for the fans.

Author’s take

Earlier, there were rumours about Jericho potentially returning to WWE for Royal Rumble. But from the looks of it, it’s not likely to happen. But at the same time, as Fozzy does not have any tour dates until 28th, it opens the door wide open for Jericho to show up at the 25th-anniversary edition of Raw.

Jericho could also work the New Beginning show since it happens a day before the tour date with Fozzy. At the same time, a possible appearance from Jericho at the Royal Rumble cannot be completely ruled out because Never say never.
