WWE News: US Champion Baron Corbin suffers upset loss

Sin Cara is back!

Sin Cara is back!

What's the story?

Baron Corbin, coming fresh off of a clean win against AJ Styles has just lost via count out to the returning Sin Cara, who we haven't seen for months on SmackDown LIVE television, in what can only be considered a shock upset.

In case you didn't know...

Baron Corbin defeated AJ Styles (c) and Tye Dillinger, who was added to the match last minute, to claim the United States Championship at Hell in a Cell 2017 when he stole the pin off of AJ Styles.

He then successfully retained his newly gained title on the following SmackDown LIVE by beating AJ Styles clean in his contracted rematch.

The heart of the matter

My facts might not be 100% accurate but I'm fairly certain we haven't seen Sin Cara on SmackDown LIVE television since May when he debuted on the blue brand in a losing effort to Dolph Ziggler.

Nevertheless, Sin Cara would come out after a long time away to face Baron Corbin in a one on one match. Corbin got the WWE Universe excited by pretending to issue a US Championship open-challenge before announcing that it was closed permanently.

However, the smug smile was knocked off of his face when Cara would win via count-out after a huge top-rope crossbody to the outside.

What's next?

With Baron Corbin refusing to issue an open challenge for the title it seems that any SmackDown LIVE superstars who want a shot at the belt will have it earn it the traditional way. You've got to think that Sin Cara has gotten himself significantly closer to gaining himself a match for the title.

Authors take

I'm not sure where this is going, it seems like an odd decision to finally put Corbin over AJ Styles clean and then ruin all of that build by having Corbin go back to being a heel who can't win on his own and loses to people who haven't wrestled in months.

Still, it's good to see Sin Cara back!
