What’s the story?

While recently speaking with SportsNet’s Aftermath show, WWE NXT superstar Velveteen Dream discussed his fanbase and as well as his comments about indie wrestlers invading WWE.

In case you didn’t know…

Patrick Clark aka The Velveteen Dream signed for the WWE in 2015 as part of the company’s developmental territory, better known as NXT.

Dream was initially chosen to be a contestant in the sixth season of the WWE competition Tough Enough and throughout his current stint with NXT, the former MCW Tag Team Champion has already competed in several high profile matches against the likes of Aleister Black, Johnny Gargano, and Kassius Ohno.

The heart of the matter

In his interview, Velveteen Dream noted that while you’re doing something, the quantity of the years does not matter and it is rather the quality of the years that counts and at 22 years of old, Dream claims that he has had a pretty solid one year in the WWE.

Dream, who made his Prince-inspired character's debut in 2017, added that this is just the beginning for him in the WWE and he doesn’t speak for either Vince McMahon or Triple H but believes that he sees eye to eye with both men when it comes to the conversation of The Dream being the future of the WWE.

“It’s about the quality of years, and at 22 years old the Velveteen Dream has had a solid one year. That’s just the beginning, and I don’t speak for Vince McMahon, or Hunter Hearst Helmsley, but I think we see eye to eye when we see that The Dream is money. The Dream is the future of WWE, would you not agree with that?”

Additionally, Velveteen Dream also opened up about his fan following, as he regarded that he doesn’t like the word “fan”, because fan is short for “fanatic” and Dream knows that everyone who follows him is a supporter, who don’t need any sort of merchandise in order to show their affection towards The Dream.

“They don’t need ‘merch’. They don’t need to show their affection by wearing a sandwich board on their bodies, logos. No, no, no… people who support the dream are a little bit more sophisticated than that. All you have to do is say his name. Try it.”

What’s next?

As per confirmed by NXT General Manager William Regal, The Velveteen Dream will now be a part of the upcoming six-man ladder match along with EC3, Ricochet, Killian Dain, Lars Sullivan, and Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans in order to crown the first ever NXT North American Champion.

Author’s Take

Velveteen Dream is indeed one of the most exciting and fascinating characters in WWE today and I hope that The Dream eventually gets awarded for his amazing work in NXT so far.
