WWE News: Velveteen Dream "shoots" on indie guys coming to NXT

Velveteen
Velveteen Dream has had a tremendous year in NXT

What's the story?

Velveteen Dream has had a pretty monumental few months in NXT, from earning the respect of Aleister Black in a critically acclaimed match following a very hot feud to defeating Kassius Ohno.

However, the NXT Superstar recently took to social media to "shoot" on the current state of NXT - and in particular, the influx of "indie" talent.

In case you didn't know…

The Velveteen Dream is one of NXT's top prospects right now. Patrick Clark, the man behind the gimmick, was eliminated early from a Tough Enough series that saw a lot of controversial characters go far and then leave WWE - with only Mandy Rose making it to the main roster.

Dream, though, has taken the world by storm and is looking like a potential future NXT Champion - and someone who will do great on the main roster some day.

The heart of the matter

Well, Velveteen Dream took to Twitter yesterday to rant about the talent in NXT, claiming himself to be a homegrown talent and, essentially, put himself over.

What's next?

Well, there's almost no doubt that this is a hint at Velveteen Dream's next feud. I guess we'll see how this one unfolds on NXT in the coming weeks.

Author's take

Well, when a wrestler takes to Twitter and says they're going to "shoot" about something, it's normally a work - and this almost definitely is.

However, this one is particularly interesting as Dream looks to solidify himself as a heel - something he may find difficult with the uniqueness of his character. It's also pretty interesting that Velveteen Dream has targeted solely indie guys, as this may actually be the thing NXT is best known for - taking indie guys and polishing them as WWE Superstars before their main roster debut.

Is there a little bit of truth in Velveteen Dream's words for Patrick Clark? Well, maybe. He may actually be sick of indie guys - but this is probably a lead-in for an imminent feud with a former indie guy on the roster, something that I'm very excited about it!
