WWE News: Vince McMahon Compares John Cena To a Sporting Legend On Twitter, Twitter Goes Ballistic
What’s the story?
If you’ve been following pro wrestling news at all today, you’ve probably caught wind that Total Bellas star John Cena turned 40 years young today. While plenty of folks have taken to Twitter to wish Mr.HustleLoyaltyRespect well on this milestone birthday, there was one particular message that caught the eye of the Internet specifically. Of course, that tweet came from the Chairman himself, Vincent Kennedy McMahon.
Some background...
John Cena has been the cornerstone of the WWE for the better part of a decade – often compared to Hulk Hogan for the way they both appeal to younger fans while also making a mark on pop culture outside of wrestling. Regardless of anyone’s opinion of his performance as a wrestler and WWE Superstar, it’s clear that Cena means a lot fo the WWE as a company and it would make sense that the head of the company, Mr.McMahon himself, would take a moment to publicly wish his big money draw, well on his birthday.
The heart of the story
This is the Tweet that McMahon sent out earlier today:
“Hustle Loyalty Respect” is not just an expression, it’s the measure of the man. Happy birthday to the Babe Ruth of WWE, @JohnCena.

That doesn’t seem like something out of line for the head of a business to say about their star, does it? Probably not, but don’t tell the Internet that, because they weren’t havin’ it. One Twitter user, in particular, seemed interested in finding out exactly who is the Babe Ruth of the WWE – because it wasn’t always Cena.

While both Hogan and Cena might have legitimate claims to the “Babe Ruth” moniker, there were folks online who felt a different person deserved that honor....
@WrightsonLuke @Jeff4life56 @VinceMcMahon @JohnCena Stone cold = best drawer in WWE EVER. Not hogan not savage no michaels not hbk not john cena. STONE COLD

Author’s take
Let’s be honest – people have been called the “Babe Ruth of...” their respective industries since... well... since Babe Ruth was actually still around. Calling John Cena the “Babe Ruth of WWE” isn’t an official title or anything. It’s just something Vince said. Calm down.
