WWE News: Fan footage shows awkward moment during Neville's entrance at Payback
What’s the story?
Last Sunday, at WWE Payback, fan footage showed that as Neville made his way down towards the ring, the WWE crew was still in the midst of transforming the squared circle for the match. As a result, Neville had to wait for a brief while before he could actually go inside the ring.
In case you didn’t know…
Following his return from injury in 2016, Neville failed to get in on the Universal Title sweepstakes. However, he burst onto the Cruiserweight scene and went on to win the title at the Royal Rumble in January when he defeated Rich Swann. Now, he is one of the top names in WWE 205 Live alongside the likes of Austin Aries, Jack Gallagher and TJ Perkins.
Neville defeated Aries at WrestleMania 33 in his in-ring WrestleMania debut. Aries got a rematch at Payback after winning a Fatal Four-Way.
The heart of the matter
Whenever there is a match featuring the Cruiserweights, the ropes and canvas of the ring need to be changed. The crew has to change it back to the usual setup after the match is over and they surely deserve praise for doing it so quickly week in and week out.
However, it seemed that the WWE crew was not given enough time after the Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens match. There was just a quick WWE Network commercial shown to the television viewers and then it was cut right back to Aries’ entrance.
Neville’s entrance, on the other hand, hit a bit of a snag while the ring crew were frantically working as you can see above. By the end of the match, he had been defeated by Aries. But since Neville had got himself disqualified from the contest, he still remains the Cruiserweight champion.
What’s next?
Aries and Neville are likely to continue their feud going forward. However, with the addition of TJ Perkins into the mix, things should get interesting.
Author’s take
This is something that you will never get to see on your television screens sitting at home. Thankfully, for fan footages like these, we are able to witness exactly how much work the crew needs to put in.
