WWE News: Reason behind Paige and Alberto Del Rio's breakup

It was

It was fun while it lasted...

What's the story

Paige and Alberto El Patron (formerly known as Alberto Del Rio) had a whirlwind romance fit for a Lifetime Original Movie. The two called it quits, and now Paige is back on WWE television. Paige and El Patron apparently don't have any animosity toward each other as El Patron opened up about their break up on a recent episode of Keeping It 100 With Konnan.

In case you didn't know...

Pro wrestling romances are nothing new. Sometimes it works out very well if they can share time on the road together or deal with the time apart. But often times the busy schedule of a pro wrestler contradicts a possible relationship with another pro wrestler, especially if their schedule is just as busy

Heart of the matter

Alberto El Patron told Konnan that it was simply about distance and time apart for the couple some considered the Bonnie and Clyde of pro wrestling during their time together. Since Paige was in Orlando training at the WWE Performance Center so often and he was in San Antonio when he could be home, it just couldn't work.

"We were not seeing each other and because she was training and getting ready to go back they were not letting her go to San Antonio, I couldn't go to Orlando because I have three little kids and I was coming home two or three days and I had to choose between going to Orlando or staying with my kids so of course, I decided to stay with my kids."

Alberto said they both agreed not to say anything and let people find out for themselves because they got tired of everyone having an opinion. Alberto El Patron said when they were filming Impact Wrestling in Canada that Alberto El Patron asked if they could say something. Then they came to an agreement until a friend "accidentally" put something out there and even though they deleted it once something is out there then it's out there.

Alberto said it was always something from Paige's side, her friends, family and blamed her for letting the cat out of the bag. Alberto El Patron said that he told Paige it's not fair and even though it wasn't her breaking the agreement it still came from her camp and he said he was tired of being affected by her side of things.

"We ended it on good terms. She wants the best for me. I want the best for her. I know she's going to be the most successful Diva in history. She has all the talents and we had an amazing relationship and I just wanna say one thing: the haters, they never broke us. We decided to do this because it's the best for our careers and my kids."

What's next

Hopefully, Paige and Alberto El Patron can remain civil because this kind of breakup could have gotten messy. Meanwhile, great to see Paige is remaining focused as she takes over the Raw roster alongside Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville to lead Absolution to the top of the Raw women's roster.

Author's take

There are two sides to every story and this is Alberto El Patron's take on things. But I'd be willing to bet even if there is some mudslinging that could occur, Paige is intelligent enough to keep her career in mind instead of saying anything that might give her another public relations black eye.

Relationships can be tough, especially with distance like this involved and it looks like these two just couldn't make it work. But they seemed to really enjoy each other's company while it lasted. I just wonder if Paige is going to get more ink to cover up any tattoos she got in honor of her relationship with Alberto El Patron.
