From the WWE rumor mill: Women's wrestling legend locked for Royal Rumble matchÂ
What's the story?
The women's Royal Rumble match is right around the corner and it seems that the first legend has already been confirmed for the match. Molly Holly has not been seen in a competing in a one-on-one match in WWE since 2005 but it seems that she is set to make her return after more than a decade away to make history along with 29 other female wrestlers.
In case you didn't know...
Molly Holly is widely considered to be one of the biggest female legends of all time, but whilst Trish Stratus and Lita take all the headlines for that era, Molly is one of the women who was considered to be ahead of her time when it came to her in-ring ability.
Molly was never a woman who enjoyed the fact that the division was sexualised at that time which made her stand out in her own way. Whilst Molly did walk away from WWE back in 2005, she did return for one night only to compete in the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania Women's battle royale, which was later won by Santina Marella. So it seems that she has experience when it comes to these kinds of matches.
The heart of the matter
According to PWInsider's elite's audio, it seems that WWE has already confirmed the first female legend for the upcoming Royal Rumble. Molly Holly is set to appear as one of the surprise entrants in the upcoming match which will include 30 women for the very first time and is set to be just one in a long list of names that will be linked with a return in the coming weeks.
Molly Holly has remained in incredible shape since her WWE departure more than a decade ago and is a perfect addition to the match given her popularity with the WWE Universe.
What's next?
Molly Holly will be part of the 30-woman match in less than two weeks time as the 31 annual Royal Rumble match takes place on January 28th live from Philadephia, Pennsylvania. The show is already starting to look like one of the best Royal Rumble events in history and it seems that it can only get better as more names are announced.
Author's take
Molly Holly is someone that many fans grew up watching and whilst there are many women of that era that took all the plaudits, Molly Holly was someone who was always overlooked. Molly is the only female in WWE history brave enough to have her hair shaved after she lost a hair vs hair match, she was ahead of her game and set the bar in WWE, so it's only right that she is given this chance to make history along with many other women.
