WWE News: WWE Battleground announced for July 23rd
What's the story?
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, WWE announced the scheduled date for Battleground. The announcement took place during the latest episode of Monday Night RAW. The event will take place on 23rd July at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA.
In case you didn't know....
Since 2013, Battleground has served as a regular WWE PPV. The first Battleground took place on 6th October at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York. Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan headlined the PPV in a singles match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
The heart of the matter
From 2014 WWE has held Battleground in the month of July. Thus, keeping the tradition alive, the PPV will be conducted in July. It hasn't been announced yet whether the PPV will be exclusive to RAW or SmackDown. However, SmackDown is labelled as its parent show on Battleground's Wikipedia page.
After the brand split, Battleground 2016 was the final PPV to feature Superstars from both RAW and SmackDown. At the PPV, SmackDown’s Dean Ambrose defeated Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, thus making the World Title exclusive to SmackDown.
After losing the World Title to SmackDown, RAW filled its void by creating the WWE Universal Championship.
What's next?
According to Mike Johnson's report, WWE also announced a pre-sale code titled 'WWEPhilly', which can be used at a later date to purchase Battleground tickets in advance on Ticketmaster.
