WWE News: WWE brings back legendary WCW pay-per-view after 17 years
It has just been announced on WWE.com, that Starrcade, WCW's version of WrestleMania would be making a comeback for the first time since the company was bought by WWE.
It will take place at the Greensboro Coliseum on November 25, for the first time in over thirty years. From the looks of it, Starrcade will be a SmackDown Live only event, main evented by Jinder Mahal and Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Championship. Here is the official Tweet announcing the event:
We wonder if Starrcade will be on pay-per-view or if it will just be a Network Special, considering that it will happen only five days after Survivor Series.
Bolstering the bill are some names from the past such as The Rock n' Roll Express, Ricky Steamboat and others. Here is the complete bill for the event.
Starrcade follows in the tradition of Jim Crockett Promotions and will take place on Thanksgiving Day weekend.
Later on, WCW had moved the date for Starrcade to December instead of the traditional November date, and WWE is bringing back the tradition of old.
Also on the bill are The Hardy Boyz, who are from the RAW brand, but are making a special appearance in their home state.
We wonder if other surprises from the past will show up, such as Sting, Goldberg and if his health permits, the man who is synonymous with Starrcade- The Nature Boy Ric Flair.
Tickets go on sale on September 29. Let's hope WWE makes this an annual tradition, and NWA/WCW fans who are disillusioned with the current product, return just for the Starrcade name and memories attached to it.
This will be 'the greatest night in the history of our sport'!
