WWE News: WWE Championship match at Backlash is now no disqualificationÂ
What's the story?
This week on SmackDown Live General Manager Paige announced that AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura's match at Backlash would now be a no disqualification match.
In case you didn't know...
Nakamura and Styles have been feuding ever since the Japanese star announced that he would challenge Styles for the WWE Championship following his Royal Rumble win. The duo went from being friends earlier this year to now being bitter enemies after Styles managed to defeat his longtime friend at WrestleMania and Nakamura then low-blowed AJ and turned heel for the first time.
Over the past few weeks, Nakamura has been developing a new character and looked as though he could finally pick up the WWE Championship in Saudi Arabia last Friday but the match ended in a count out and the duo then brawled following the bell.
The heart of the matter
Nakamura gets another chance at the WWE Championship this Sunday at Backlash but because of the ending to their match at The Greatest Royal Rumble, the duo will now battle it out in a no disqualification match to ensure that there is a definite winner regardless of Nakamura's underhanded tactics.
What's next?
This added stipulation could be exactly what Nakamura needs to finally get past AJ Styles and lift the WWE Championship for the first time.
Author's take
The feud between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura has been one of the most interesting on SmackDown Live over the past few months and since Backlash is missing that hook that will draw viewers into the first pay-per-view of the new era, this could be the one to steal the show.
This could also be Nakamura's last chance at the Championship and his best shot with the rules taken away.
