WWE News: WWE Championship match set for Money In The Bank
What's the story?
At WrestleMania, we finally saw the dream match in WWE - AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura - but while the Mania showdown ended in a Styles win and Nakamura turning on his fellow SmackDown star, ensuring the rivalry would continue.
Well, it did indeed at the Greatest Royal Rumble and again at Backlash, where it became apparent that neither man would win decisively and, with low blows aplenty making this rivalry more personal than ever, the match has now been set for Money In The Bank.
In case you didn't know...
AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura put on a dream match in Japan, and while WWE couldn't recreate the magic at WrestleMania 34, the pair still put on a quality match built on a storyline of each man wanting to be the better man and, aside from the odd head pat, with a foundation of mutual respect.
With Styles winning clean to retain his WWE Championship, Nakamura betrayed his former friend with a low blow downing The Phenomenal One and prolonging the rivalry. Since, we've seen a barrage of low blows sour the storyline and subsequent contests - with AJ Styles and the new-look Nakamura complete with mean streak unable to put the other man away.
The heart of the matter
Well, it won't come as a huge surprise to anyone that we'll see one more match between these two men, and SmackDown Live commissioner Shane McMahon took to Twitter today to confirm the match - and hint at a probable stipulation for the match too.
Shane O-Mac confirmed that we will see a "definitive winner" and "clear victor" - hinting at a Last Man Standing match, which has been rumoured since last week.
While that wasn't confirmed in the tweet, it seems like a logical choice as the previous No Disqualification Match ended in a double count-out when neither man could get to their feet following a double low blow.
What's next?
With SmackDown Live emanating live from the O2 in London tomorrow night, we could very well see or hear more about this tomorrow evening.
The last time AJ Styles performed in the UK on SmackDown Live, he won the WWE Championship from Jinder Mahal.
Will tomorrow's show have title implications too? We won't have to wait long to find out.
Author's take
Well, with so much hype for this match before WrestleMania, the feud has been slightly underwhelming. There has been some beautiful storytelling throughout, but the ultimate lack of a pay-off has soured the end of the previous two contests. A Last Man Standing Match, though, would be my tip to steal any show between these guys - so I can't wait for Money In The Bank!
