WWE Rumors: WWE contacts released Superstar about a contract

Who has the last laugh?

One month has just about elapsed since Cody Rhodes parted ways with the WWE. Frustrated with his Stardust gimmick and with his back to the wall over being denied his pleas to revive his original character, the former two-time Intercontinental Champion asked for his release in the end of May.

It is now reported that the WWE has contacted Cody over a business proposition. According to PWInsider, the WWE wants to sign Cody something akin to a legends contract so they are still licensed to release and sell merchandise featuring him.

The report states the possibility of WWE wanting to release merchandise through manufacturers like Mattel. There is nothing to suggest that Cody will return to the WWE. The second generation Superstar is doing well since striking out on his own, having already lined up booking for matches against TNA’s Mike Bennett and former WWE Champion Kurt Angle.

Rhodes tweeted a list of wrestlers he wants to face in the future and it appears he is cutting through it. He even has a match against the man who handed him his first loss, Pat Buck. The list also includes The Young Bucks, Chris Hero, Dalton Castle, Adam Cole, amongst others. Cody’s wife, Eden asked for her release shortly after his departure.
