WWE News: WWE Draft date announced, plans for championships
The internet wrestling community was knocked off-kilter when it was announced yesterday that the WWE will be returning RAW and SmackDown to its older forms and make them unique shows.
The word within the WWE is that each show will have its own world title, with the United States Championship staying on one show while the intercontinental championship will go to another.
Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live that he believes the Women’s division will remain on one show, but the tag team championships will be fair game on both. The WWE Draft is expected to happen on July 11th in Detroit, Michigan.
Wrestlinginc.com reports that the top brass of the WWE were holding onto the information for a while and many were aware of it only at Exteme Rules this past Sunday. The decision to split the roster through a draft was made only in the last few weeks.
Needless to say, the WWE Universe can expect some promotions from NXT and a host of new faces as well because the company is reportedly on the hunt for fresh talent. There are said to be plans to have multiple tours, as many as four – two from the main roster, two from NXT, active at the same time.
