WWE News: Legal battle between Ryback and WWE intensifies
According to PWInsider, WWE is trying to block Ryback from trademarking “The Big Guy”. The report stated WWE is opposing the trademark Ryback applied for his dietary and nutritional supplement use and not the one he applied for wrestling.
As reported earlier, Ryback is starting a nutritional product and also a clothing line. After he left WWE, he was advertised as “The Big Guy” and not Ryback in the indie scene and this was because WWE owns the rights to the name “Ryback”.
Since he was popularly known as Ryback, he decided to exploit the loophole by changing his official name to Ryback Allen Reeves (previously Ryan Allen Reeves). This ensured that WWE could not take any legal action against him for using the name on the indies.
PWInsider noted that WWE has until February 15th, 2017 to file the opposition or to request for more time. Ryback’s first appearance after leaving WWE was for Northeast Wrestling's Rumble in Rockland on August 25. He appeared two days later for the organisation's event titled Wrestling Under The Stars 5.
One of Ryback’s notable appearances next year will be for 5 Star Wrestling in the United Kingdom, where he will take on Johnny Mundo (John Morrison/Johnny Nitro) for the 5-star championship. On a side note, Mundo had defeated the now-WWE World Champion AJ Styles for the championship before the Phenomenal one came to WWE. In a video promoting his appearance, Ryback claimed that he defeated AJ Styles many times in WWE, which is untrue. You can see the video here
Ryback’s only match against AJ Styles was in a live event in Dubai, and he was defeated in that bout. If you don’t know why The Big Guy left WWE, you can hear him shoot on it here:
