What's the story?

On a recent edition of The Jim Ross Report, WWE Hall of Famer, Jim Ross weighed in on a host of Pro Wrestling related topics, including the one of current SmackDown Women's Champion, Asuka.

According to JR, he feels that WWE is wasting Asuka's talents and she has been underutilized by the company.

In case you didn't know...

At last year's Tables, Ladders, and Chairs pay-per-view, 'The Empress of Tomorrow' Asuka finally had her big moment on the main roster, as she defeated both Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in the first-ever Women's TLC match to win the SmackDown Women's Title.

Asuka would successfully go on to defend her title against Becky Lynch at the Royal Rumble and is currently coming off a title defence against Mandy Rose.

The heart of the matter

While speaking on the recent edition of his podcast, The Ross Report, legendary Pro Wrestling commentator and WWE Hall of Famer, Jim Ross stated that WWE has seemingly 'mismanaged' and has highly underutilized Asuka.

As per Ross' view, Asuka's downslide started when WWE decided to end her undefeated streak at last year's WrestleMania when 'The Empress of Tomorrow' lost to Charlotte Flair in the SmackDown Women's Title match. (H/T: Wrestling Inc)

"It has been mismanagement [of Asuka]," Ross confirmed. "I thought Asuka… the ball was dropped last year at WrestleMania after she lost her undefeated streak to Charlotte. They had a great match. Anybody that watches that match and tells me it wasn't any good doesn't know anything about [pro] wrestling. I think the ball was dropped there. It [has] been hard to get the momentum back going."

Ross further added that there is also room for another big female Superstar in the WWE and that should be Asuka. Clearly, the WWE Hall of Famer is a big fan of the current SmackDown Women's Champion and his following statement is solid proof.

"But man, as many people are tuning into the female elements of creative storytelling on RAW and SmackDown, for example, you've got to believe that there's a place for another major star and I think Asuka's it. I think she [has] been grossly under-utilized. Maybe that'll change."

What's next?

Asuka is expected to defend her SmackDown Women's Title at WrestleMania 35, however, WWE hasn't confirmed who will be stepping up to challenge 'The Empress of Tomorrow'.
