WWE News: WWE issues statement on Drew McIntyre's ICW Hall of Fame induction
What’s the story?
The WWE has sent out an official statement on Drew McIntyre’s ICW Hall of Fame induction.
Addressing the upcoming event that’ll see the honor bestowed upon McIntyre, the WWE noted the NXT Superstar’s history with ICW and detailed his Hall of Fame induction.
In case you didn’t know…
Drew McIntyre performed for Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW) back in 2006, following which he signed with the WWE in 2007 and worked for the Vince McMahon-helmed promotion until 2014.
McIntyre returned to ICW in 2014 and performed for the Scotland-based organization for three years. He returned to the WWE last year and won the NXT Championship; dropping it to Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas at NXT Takeover: WarGames.
The heart of the matter
As we’d previously reported, Drew McIntyre suffered a serious bicep injury at the aforementioned NXT Takeover: WarGames event and has been out of action ever since. The WWE’s statement addressed McIntyre’s injury; adding that the former NXT Champion will have cause for celebration later this month when he returns to his native of Scotland to be honored by ICW—a promotion that’s always been near and dear to his heart.
Furthermore, the statement read that McIntyre will be inducted into the ICW Hall of Fame on Monday, February 12th, and will receive the honor in person as he returns for a one-night appearance at ICW’s Fight Club event at the O2 ABC in Glasgow. Below are a few excerpts from the WWE’s statement regarding the same—
“McIntyre was a mainstay in ICW, both before his original debut in WWE as well as during his three-year hiatus away from WWE. He was the organization's inaugural ICW Heavyweight Champion, first winning the title in 2006. McIntyre recaptured the title again in 2014, holding it for 378 days. In response to the news, McIntyre described his upcoming induction as a "truly special" honor.”
What’s next?
Drew McIntyre is presently rehabilitating his bicep injury and is expected to make his in-ring return on NXT very soon.
