WWE News: WWE Network to air WWE 24: Women's revolution from August 16th
There is no doubt that women’s wrestling in WWE has come a long way. Early pioneers include the likes of Hall of Famers Lita and Trish Stratus, and others such as Victoria, Ivory, Molly Holly, etc. who hit their stride in the Attitude Era. However, women of the time were still not presented with the opportunities that they deserved. The Divas era of WWE saw very few women able to excel as wrestlers, with the likes of Natalya, AJ Lee and Beth Pheonix standing out.
NXT has been the difference maker. The early days of the rebirth of NXT saw the likes of Paige, Emma and Summer Rae among others start something that really began the conversation and helped fans get more engrossed in women’s wrestling. They’ve all went their own paths and are continuing to make their marks, but unquestionably, the women who truly got professional wrestling fans completely engrossed and excited with women’s wrestling are the Four Horsewomen: Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Bayley.
The four horsewomen have had series of critically acclaimed matches against each other, whether in singles matches, triple threats or fatal four-ways. The one that stands out most to the fans is Sasha Banks vs Bayley at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, last year.
In July 2015, Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Becky Lynch were called up to the main roster, in what was said to be the beginning of the “Divas Revolution”. It took time for the revolution to find it’s footing, but by January 2016, fans were digging into the program that was happening, i.e, Becky Lynch vs Charlotte. It was a great feud because Charlotte was doing great as a heel and Becky was getting over tremendously as a babyface.
In fact, Becky got over so well that they couldn’t ignore putting her in the Wrestlemania 32 match to crown a new WWE Women’s Champion. The triple threat between Sasha, Charlotte and Becky is considered by many as the best match of the entire Wrestlemania card.
Things have only improved, with Sasha Banks recently dethroning Charlotte and becoming the new WWE Women’s Champion. Now, the critically acclaimed WWE Network show WWE 24 will be returning with a special title WWE 24: Women’s Revolution. It should be a special show covering the journey of these women and will commence on August 16th immediately after Talking Smack.
Meanwhile, Charlotte and Sasha Banks face off at Summerslam for the WWE Women’s Championship.
