WWE News: WWE officially announces Shelton Benjamin's return
You won’t hear too many complaints from the IWC about SmackDown’s new intro video and theme song, but they’ll be hoping for the roster to get a little more firepower in it. Their prayers were answered when the WWE announced on today’s SmackDown Live that Shelton Benjamin will officially join the blue brand.
It was reported that Benjamin and MVP were making the trip back to the WWE. Former General Manager Theodore Long said during a recent podcast that he met MVP at a wrestling show and the former United States Champion confided that both he and Benjamin only had to undergo the WWE customary medical tests before signing contracts.
Here is WWE’s official tweet and video:
Benjamin, a former National Junior College Wrestling Champion who originally charted a course for the Olympics, joined the WWE in 2003 as a protege of Kurt Angle. Benjamin, barely a month after being signed, would capture tag team gold with Charlie Haas.
He would go on to become a United States Champion and a three-time Intercontinental Champion before leaving the company in 2010. Benjamin has performed in Pro Wrestling Noah, Ring Of Honor, Pro Wrestling Noah and New Japan Pro Wrestling in the interlude.
