WWE News: WWE poll teases Roman Reigns losing to Brock Lesnar at Greatest Royal Rumble
What's the story?
Roman Reigns is still the favorite to defeat Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship, but a recent poll may cause fans to second guess that prediction.
The aforementioned poll asked WWE fans who they want to see Lesnar face for the Universal Championship if Reigns loses again.
In case you didn't know
There wasn't a fan in the Superdome who didn't expect Reigns to beat Lesnar for the Universal Championship, but 'The Conqueror' retained his title after hitting a sixth F-5.
A rematch between the two was announced for the Greatest Royal Rumble as well after Lesnar re-signed with the WWE.
The heart of the matter
Braun Strowman, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe and The Miz were the four wrestlers listed for fans to vote on. At the time of this writing, Strowman holds a strong lead over Balor, Joe and The Miz in that order.
Lesnar's history with Joe and Strowman date back to the summer of 2017, but the Universal Champion has no prior encounters with Balor and The Miz in singles competition.
Balor was rumored to face Lesnar for the title at the 2018 Royal Rumble, but Lesnar faced Strowman and Kane in a Triple Threat match instead.
This poll could be used as a way to foreshadow another defeat for Reigns, but the more likely scenario is this poll was created to throw off fan expectation for the match at the Greatest Royal Rumble.
Reigns was originally scheduled to defeat Lesnar for the Championship at WrestleMania 34, but a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter said the decision to have Lesnar win was made on the Raw before Mania once Lesnar re-signed with the WWE.
What's next?
The Greatest Royal Rumble will take place on Friday, April 27 and will emanate from the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Lesnar's latest contract is reported to be a short-term deal that runs out before SummerSlam, so there is a chance that he could retain his Championship and defend it at another show, but that isn't likely.
Author's take
WWE swerved fans at WrestleMania 34, but there is doubt as to whether WWE would be bold enough to swerve fans again.
If Reigns doesn't walk out of Saudi Arabia with the Universal Champion, then one would have to wonder what was the point of giving him these matches against Lesnar in the first place?
