WWE News: WWE releases backstage footage of Lita getting emotional before the Royal Rumble
What’s the story?
The WWE has sent out footage of a backstage interview with Lita and Bayley, which took place before the Women’s Royal Rumble Match.
Apparently, while discussing the historic event, Lita got emotional as she spoke about a few female wrestling legends who passed away in recent years.
In case you didn’t know…
Lita, whose real name is Amy Dumas, performed in ECW back in 1999, before signing with the WWE in 2000.
Lita went on to achieve tremendous success in the WWE in a span of six years, winning the WWE Women’s Championship four times. She retired from full-time pro-wrestling competition in 2006 and has since made sporadic appearances in the WWE as well as the indie professional wrestling circuit.
The heart of the matter
Lita was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014, and returned to the WWE as an in-ring competitor for a one-off performance this January; participating in the first-ever All-Women’s Royal Rumble Match which took place at the Royal Rumble PPV.
Lita was seated with Bayley, as the two Royal Rumble participants were interviewed before their historic matchup. Bayley asserted that Lita is indeed her idol and someone who played a huge role in driving her to become a professional wrestler.
Furthermore, Lita explained that the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match is indeed a milestone for Women’s Wrestling. Lita then appeared to break into tears while stating that it’s sad how a few iconic female performers of the past such as Luna Vachon and Chyna weren’t there to witness this historic event—
What’s next?
Lita is presently signed to the WWE as an analyst; primarily appearing on the PPV Pre-Shows. On the other hand, Bayley performs for the WWE RAW brand.
Author’s take
The passion which Lita and Bayley seem to have for this business truly shines through in this interview.
The Women’s Royal Rumble Match was a great one and important achievement not only for the WWE’s female talent but for Women’s Wrestling in general. Needless to say, someone, as dedicated to Women’s Wrestling as Lita, is bound to get emotional while speaking about the same.
The WWE Universe shall never forget ‘The Eighth Wonder of the World’ Chyna and Princess Luna.
