WWE News: WWE makes kind gesture towards military heroes for Veterans' Day
What's the story?
Ahead of Veterans Day in the United States of America, which takes place on the 11th of November, WWE's Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon confirmed via Twitter that the company would be donating 10% of WWE Shop Sales on the day to Hire Heroes USA.
WWE have supported Hire Heroes USA on Veterans Day before as well. Here is a video from them on last year's occasion.
In case you didn't know...
Veterans Day celebrates those who formerly served the U.S. Army.
Hire Heroes USA is an organisation in America which aims to help members of the U.S. military (and their spouses) get employment in the 'civilian workforce' once they have finished their army service.
Stephanie McMahon, Vince McMahon's daughter, is currently WWE's Chief Brand Officer.
On TV, Stephanie, the wife of Triple H, is usually a dastardly heel and authority figure. She is currently the Commissioner of RAW, and she returned recently to the Red Brand, having been off screen since WrestleMania 33.
In real life, however, McMahon has been involved in a lot of charity work on WWE's behalf in her role as CBO.
The heart of the matter
John Cena and Alexa Bliss are two Superstars who have used Twitter so far to thank U.S. Army Veterans on this year's occasion. It is part of WWE's efforts to improve their public relations.
Over the years, WWE has had a very good relationship with the U.S. Military. They have held The Tribute To The Troops event annually since JBL came up with the idea in 2003, in which both RAW and SmackDown Superstars wrestle in front of U.S. army members, who get to go to the show for free.
Before 2010, WWE held the shows in either Iraq or Afghanistan. where there were US Military bases. Many WWE Superstars and Chairman Vince McMahon would meet with all the soldiers there who were away from their families and loved ones. However, in the last seven years has seen the company hold the Tribute to the Troops domestically.
What's next?
WWE's relationship with the US Military will continue when 2017's Tribute to the Troops' special will take place in December, with it being reported back in September by PWInsider.com that it will be taped on the 5th of that month at the SmackDown Live show in the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.
Author's take
This is a nice move by WWE. Members of the U.S. Defence Forces often find it difficult to find jobs once they conclude their service.
Therefore, Hire Heroes USA is a worthy cause for WWE to help out on Veterans Day.
