What's the story?

On the most recent episode of Monday Night RAW, the WWE announced that it would be joining in with the efforts to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The video showed several high profile superstars urging people to donate to the charity principally in charge of handling donations.

In case you didn't know...

Hurricane Harvey, a tropical cyclone storm has recently caused unprecedented flooding in the south-eastern area of Texas already causing the deaths of at least 10 residents with many more injured.

Hundreds of people have had to be rescued by emergency services after many became trapped inside their homes as the water levels rose. The United States has responded with wide spread concern and offers of support to victims, with big name organisations like the WWE joining in with the effort to raise money.

The heart of the matter

The video begins with Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Alexa Bliss giving some background information to the disaster, highlighting the significant damage caused to the many communities affected.

Other superstars including Alesha Foxx, Titus O'Neil, and John Cena then go on to offer words of support and prayers to the victims and pledge to help raise money, while encouraging others to follow suit.

A link to the website for GHCF.org is then shown as the video closes, offering would-be donators easy access to the appropriate page where they can send their best wishes along with any funds they might have available.

What's next?

This will no doubt be a strong, concerted effort by the company to help support the Great Houston Community Foundation going forward. The WWE has a long history of supporting worthy charitable causes, with Conor's Cure and the Susan G Komen Foundation being recent examples.

Expect to see this video, and others like it, appear on WWE programming over the next weeks and months.

Author's take

The WWE's willingness to join in with topical charitable efforts must be applauded. The company might receive a lot of criticism from fans as far as the onscreen action is concerned, but it is always heartwarming to see a large corporation use its wealth and influence to help out when it is most needed.
