WWE News: Xavier Woods suffers injury following Bludgeon Brothers assault
What’s the story?
The Bludgeon Brothers wreaked havoc on The New Day and The Usos during WWE Fastlane, but Xavier Woods got the worst of the beatdown.
WWE issued a press release stating that Woods suffered an injury to his thoracic spine during the post-match brawl.
In case you didn't know...
The New Day and The Usos were scheduled to face each other for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, but the match ended abruptly when The Bludgeon Brothers made their way to the ring at Fastlane.
With members of The New Day and The Usos laid out following The Usos' dive to the outside, The Bludgeon Brothers came to the ring and attacked both The New Day and The SmackDown Tag Team Champions with brutal power moves, the steel steps and their mallets.
The heart of the matter
The following was released by WWE following the assault from The Bludgeon Brothers:
Xavier Woods has suffered an injury to his thoracic spine due to The Bludgeon Brothers’ brutal attack during the SmackDown Tag Team Title Match at WWE Fastlane, WWE.com can confirm.
“Our preliminary diagnosis is multiple thoracic contusions,” explained WWE medical personnel of Woods’ injury. “We’re currently in the process of having him evaluated with X-rays and possibly an MRI for any further damage, such as ruptured discs or fractures of the thoracic spine.”
Woods was attacked similarly to everyone else, but The Bludgeon Brothers drove him down onto the steel steps and the New Day Member began to shudder with pain. Of all of their victims, Woods was the only wrestler to be carted off by the medical staff.
What’s next?
The feud seems to be building to a triple threat tag team match between The Bludgeon Brothers, The New Day, and The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, so this injury could be a work.
If this injury is legit, then it still won’t affect WrestleMania plans since Big E can compete in the match in Woods’s place if needed.
Author’s take
The Bludgeon Brothers made a massive impact tonight, but hopefully this injury to Woods wasn’t collateral damage.
