WWE NXT Results 17th May 2017, Latest NXT winners, review and video highlights

Less than a week away from NXT TakeOver: Chicago, we got the go-home show ahead of the show. It was a fantastic episode that served to heighten up the anticipation for TakeOver, something that SmackDown Live didn’t do for WWE Backlash. Without further ado, let’s head straight to the results.

Drew McIntyre vs Sean Maluta

This week’s episode kicked off with NXT’s latest signing, Drew McIntyre. McIntyre’s opponent was former CWC competitor Sean Maluta, who’s a member of the Samoan Dynasty.

As the two men stared each other down, the size difference between them was stark. Drew drove Maluta into the corner as the bell rang before inviting Maluta to lock up again. They locked up and McIntyre drove him into the opposite corner.

A pissed off Maluta shoved McIntyre away before hitting him with knife-edged chops that had little to no effect. McIntyre replied with chops of his own which knocked Maluta off his feet. McIntyre then tosses Maluta across the ring with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. McIntyre then deadlifted Maluta and hit a release vertical suplex. Giving Maluta no respite, he followed it up with a stomp to Maluta’s chest.

When Maluta got back to his feet, McIntyre Irish Whipped him into the corner. The Samoan replied with a desperate boot to McIntyre’s head. He then headed to the middle rope and connected with a Codebreaker. Maluta desperately went for a cover but just got a 1 count.

Maluta hit McIntyre with right hands before hitting a forearm in the corner. As he went to Irish Whip McIntyre into the opposite corner, the big Scotsman reversed it and hit Maluta with a nasty boot to the midsection. He followed it up with clubbing blows in the corner, followed by a running forearm and a clothesline from the top rope.

Maluta, in desperation, hit McIntyre with a huge forearm but the Scot just laughed it off and hit Maluta with a nasty headbutt. Maluta staggered back to his feet and McIntyre hit him with a huge running boot.

Drew McIntyre def. Sean Maluta

As McIntyre celebrated, we saw a nasty cut he received under his eye from the headbutt he’d hit Maluta with. In his post-match interview, McIntyre challenged Wesley Blake to a match for next week’s episode.

We saw footage of SAnitY attacking Roderick Strong after his match with Hideo Itami last week. Following the footage, Eric Young had a message for the former “Mr. ROH”.

Young said that Roddy had a new baby and a beautiful fiancé, so he didn’t realize why Strong wanted to take on SAnitY at TakeOver. He said that that sounded insane even to him and though SAnitY didn’t normally take requests, he’d be happy to take away everything Roderick Strong had at Chicago.
