WWE Payback: Will we see a new WWE Champion?
This week on RAW, John Cena challenged Ryback to a ‘three stages in hell’ match. Ryback then came out and accepted the challenge. Though it seemed very interesting when Cena announced the match in the beginning, it slowly faded when the stipulations were mentioned. Anyway, the question that many are asking is whether this stipulation has something to do with Ryback’s long awaited change in fortune. The newest powerhouse in WWE has somehow failed every time the hopes of him winning the title increases.
Ryback has challenged the WWE title several times and has failed each time. While it wouldn’t have been right to give a newcomer the title right away, Ryback has stayed in the title scenario for about an year now and it is high time some relief is shown to make sure his reputation as a monster heel doesn’t fade away.
There were several genuine reasons when Ryback didn’t win his title in the previous matches, one of them was poor ability inside the ring. For long there was a doubt looming around as to whether Ryback will be able to perform in matches where he had to stay longer. Most of the time during his initial rampant run, Ryback was pitched against jobbers in matches that hardly lasted minutes. But now after Extreme Rules there is no doubt that Ryback will be able to last in a longer match without much variation in his performance. His 20 minute bout against Cena did show that Ryback had potential to do those long matches that WWE expected from him.
Does this mean Ryback will be given the title at Payback? Well I for one feel Ryback deserves a small but healthy run with title, but with Cena being the opponent the probability of that happening is bleak.
John Cena won his WWE title from The Rock at Wrestlemania 29 and expecting him to drop the title in just 2 months is something one cannot simply expect from WWE. Looking at this from Ryback’s point of view is really sad as he contending for the title again after a loss in a match with such huge stipulation looks highly unlikely. Speaking of the stipulation, there are a few doubts that arise when it is considered. The stipulation of three stages in hell does indicate to an extent that Ryback has the upper hand.
After nearly losing the title to Ryback at Extreme Rules, John Cena has put himself and his title in jeopardy by challenging Ryback to such a match. Even if Ryback did win this match it wouldn’t to a great deal affect Cena’s image as a champion because the end of this match is an Ambulance match. Even if Cena was carried out of the arena in an ambulance it wouldn’t hurt his image as a ‘never give up’ star as he didn’t tap out or quit.
Despite all that positive hints, it is hard to believe Cena will lose the title. After a drought of one year, WWE will look to give Cena a seemingly long reign. Sadly for Ryback I feel the WWE title is going to become all the more elusive for him than before.
