WWE RAW: Best match of the night

The Payback-aftermath RAW this week was one of the best RAWs in recent times. With a lot of questions to answer, RAW provided just the sort of evening that most of us were looking for. While the promos played a major role in it, so did the matches. There were two matches that stood out as far as performance is concerned – Daniel Bryan vs Orton and CM Punk vs Del Rio. Both these matches had good chemistry between the two wrestlers and this was obvious as Bryan and Punk are undoubtedly the best wrestlers in the roster at the moment. But as always, there is the tough choice of choosing the best of the two and Punk vs Del Rio prevailed not only because of their in ring performance but also because of what transpired after the match. Let us now look into the match a little more in detail.

CM Punk entered the ring without his manager Paul Heyman as Punk had insisted to Paul backstage. Things looked suspicious right from then. Del Rio, who had confirmed his heel turn earlier in the show, came out to some new found heat. The match started with Punk taking control of Del Rio. After a few blows, Del Rio gets a breather by slipping out of the ring. There was so much change in Del Rio already. Hardly a night back he had turned heel and in no moment we saw Del Rio do the typical heel stuff by slipping out of the ring so often. This was a clear indication as to how good Del Rio is as a heel.

Getting back to the match, Del Rio after being chased outside the ring got his opportunity to hit back Punk and when he did, he looked extremely aggressive. Del Rio carried over from where he left on Sunday night and continued with several kicks on Punk. He seemed to maintain complete control of the match after that. Punk then countered with the GTS and Del Rio slithered out of it and then joined Ricardo. Del Rio had enough of this match that he wasn’t interested to fight in the first place. He and Ricardo were leaving the ring as the referee counted them out.

Del Rio had a smile in his face as he thought he ran out of harms way but then had Ziggler attacking him from behind. Ziggler gave Del Rio some nice shots but somehow Del Rio managed to escape backstage with Ziggler following him. CM Punk won this match and seemed disappointed at the way the match ended when Brock Lesnar‘s music hit.

Lesnar then walked into the ring, took up the mic to speak, laid an f5 on Punk and left the ring. Looks like Punk’s problem with Heyman has just reached new heights. However, it is not certain if Paul Heyman had really asked for Brock to do this or whether Brock found it right to deal with what Punk had done with his manager on his own.

One can expect a lot of action next week as Punk will talk about this attack from Lesnar and ask an explanation either from Lesnar himself or Heyman.
