WWE Monday Night Raw: May 18, 2015- 5 things that did not work

It was the Raw after Payback and the WWE were expected to build on existing feuds and perhaps ignite many more as well. With the Elimination chamber around the corner, storylines had to be fixed to gain some momentum going into the massive pay per view.

This week’s Raw had a better rating when compared to its predecessors. WIth the WWE not relying too much on the success of Payback and beating their own drum, focus was shifted towards new feuds and rivalries. The effort was indeed appreciable, but some drawbacks made the show look plain in certain parts.

Let us look at five things that did not work on this edition of Monday night.

ZIggler – Lana romance

Third time lucky? Dolph?

It was always known that Payback would pretty much end Lana’s relationship with the Bulgarian brute Rusev. There were many theories floating around where the WWE would plant the ravishing diva. Being cast as an Authority figure too was an interesting rumour making the rounds. However, the WWE stuck to their usual policy of giving Dolph Ziggler yet another arm candy.

From Vicky Guerrero to Aj Lee, Ziggler has no doubt been a ladies man. But his career remained mid card as he was embroiled in certain meaningless feuds. Just when he seems to be on the right track once again, the WWE has burdend him with Lana this time out. Certainly not a good decision considering the fact the she is more than just arm candy material.

Authority opening the show

Power couple

The first segment of RAW always decides the pace and the mood heading into the next couple of hours of the show. In what is always a crucial segment, the wwe has relied on the Authority far too much.

Each show begins with Triple H coming out to deliver his promos and pep up the mood of the crowd. Despite being beyond his years, the Game does a great job no doubt. But the WWE relies too much on him and the scenerio gets awfully repetetive.

About time RAW began with a bang like yesteryears.

Wyatt Family vs Fandango and Ryder

Buzzards ruling the yard

Squash match time as Wyatt family members Harper and Rowan took on the oddball pair of Fandango and Zack Ryder. The match was merely a showcase of how powerful the heel duo are and this week it was the oddball pair who took a beating. The crowd were constantly behind Zack Ryder, but the ‘Long island Iced Z’ took a beating like never before.

The end result of the bout was clearly predictable as the Buzzards went for the kill from the word go. This was clearly a squash match and the crowd look disinterested of sorts.

Ambrose interrupts Rollins’ celebration

Unstable Ambrose

The number 1 contender interrupting the champion celebrating his success has been a used and abused concept in the WWE. With Triple H announcing a special celebration for the ‘chosen one’ Seth Rollins, one would obviously expect Ambrose to be there to help with the proceedings ‘smoothly’.

That is exactly what happened as Ambrose made his presence felt attacking everyone the Authority had to offer. Eventually he was outnumbered before being pedegreed by the champion as the Authority stood tall.

Wonder how many more times they will have the same ending to offer.

Stephanie McMahon returns

Not excited to see me?

The buzz created around Stephanie McMahon’s return to the WWE were plenty, but the fans wanted none of it. As she accompanied Triple H to open RAW, the fans seemed least excited seeing their boss make her return. She took to the mic and had her usual say about Rollins and how he was an asset to the WWE before joining the Authority in celebrating his legacy.

All in all, the WWE universe seem to be bored with the entire Authority concept. Stephanie and Triple H remaining top heels has to change and that seems to be the bottom line echoing around the arenas.
