WWE/ROH News: The Young Bucks on AJ Styles wanting them to sign for the WWE, on why they wouldn't sign with WWE now and more
What’s the story?
During a recent appearance on Chris Jericho’s Talk is Jericho podcast, Matt and Nick Jackson—The Young Bucks spoke about a variety of topics and one of the rather interesting subjects was why The Jackson brothers wouldn’t want to sign a deal with the WWE just yet.
In case you didn’t know…
Considered as one of the best tag teams in the world (if not the best of this generation), Matt and Nick Jackson—collectively billed as The Young Bucks—have certainly revolutionized the entire modern day Pro Wrestling industry, thanks to their amazing in-ring psychology and coordination that has definitely upgraded tag team wrestling.
Both Matt and Nick are currently signed with Ring of Honor and simultaneously have also been performing for New Japan Pro Wrestling as well, where they recently made the transition to the heavyweight tag team division.
The heart of the matter
Ever since joining The Bullet Club in 2013, both Matt and Nick have somewhat acted as the backbone of The BC and throughout their on-going five year tenure with the group, The Bucks have teamed up with several notable Pro Wrestlers such as the likes of Finn Balor, AJ Styles, Adam Cole, Karl Anderson, and Luke Gallows—who were all once a part of the Bullet Club in the past.
However, in early 2016, the trio of Styles, Gallows, and Anderson (now billed as The Club in WWE) eventually left NJPW in order to sign a deal with the WWE and following Matt and Nick’s recent conversation with Chris Jericho, the Jackson brothers evidently opened up about their former fellow BC stablemates jumping ship to the WWE and more. On Styles, Anderson, and Gallows signing with the WWE:
Styles, Anderson, and Gallows competed in their last NJPW match at the 2016 New Year’s Dash event at the Korakuen Hall and despite being very close personal friends with The Young Bucks, both Matt and Nick apparently were not aware of the fact that the trio was seemingly on the verge of leaving Japan and signing with the WWE, up until Wrestle Kingdom 10 a night before.
"It was sad to see Chad, Gallows, and AJ leave because we're like, 'that's our family! They're gone!' Yeah, it was weird! I said, 'oh my God!’ It kind of felt like a raid because they didn't smarten us up until the day before the [Tokyo] Dome [show], which was about two years ago. We found out with everybody else, so we were kind of blindsided, actually. We knew they were leaving, but we didn't know where they were going."- Nick stated.
"Pro Wrestling's so weird. Like, you kind of stop talking to them. Like, they were my best friends! And it's not like we're not friends anymore, but it's not what it used to be."- Matt added.
On AJ Styles wanting The Young Bucks to join the WWE:
It is somewhat safe to assume that both Matt and Nick have been on WWE’s radar for a very long time now and prior to AJ Styles’ signing with the Sports Entertainment Company, the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion was apparently hoping to bring in The Young Bucks to the WWE alongside him as well.
"We had just signed a contract with ROH at the time in November because AJ pulled us aside and was like, 'tell me you guys don't have any contracts now please,' and we were like, 'we just signed.' And he was like, 'argh!' because he wanted to bring us over too. And I don't know if that would've happened, but that was his idea. And we were like, 'naw, man. We just signed for two years' or whatever it was."- Matt stated.
On signing with the WWE at this point in their careers:
According to The Bucks, leaving ROH, NJPW, and the Independent circuit for the WWE at this point in their careers would definitely be a very dumb move and the former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions further explained by stating:
"If we left right now [for WWE], it would be kind of dumb of us because they couldn't pay us what we're making right now, not with the schedule we're on too. There's no way. Of course they could [afford the pay]! Do you know what I mean? I just don't think they would!"- Matt stated.
What’s next?
The Young Bucks are currently slated to appear at Ring of Honor’s upcoming Honor United show in the UK, however, both Matt and Nick will also be challenging for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Titles at this year’s Dominion pay-per-view.
Author’s Take
Personally, I feel there is absolutely no reason for The Young Bucks to sign for the WWE at this point in their careers. Both Matt and Nick are currently at the very top of their game and riding on an all-time high as well.
