How quickly time passes! It feels like no time at all since the last Royal Rumble event took place when Shinsuke Nakamura defied the odds and stood victorious. Who will follow in his footsteps and emerge as the victor of the Men's Royal Rumble match this year?
While a lot of men could potentially win the contest, let me list out the clear favourites. Seth Rollins has been touted by a lot of sources to be the winner of the contest. Others have claimed that Drew McIntyre could finally be elevated to the moon, gaining a Universal Championship shot at WrestleMania 35.
This past week, yet another top superstar emerged as a favourite to win the match. Braun Strowman was denied his title match at the Royal Rumble and therefore, there's every chance of the Royal Rumble being his ultimate redemption story, where he wins the match and goes on to challenge Brock Lesnar for a match at WrestleMania.
Do not forget about Andrade, a man whose name has shortened but career was lengthened significantly following a show-stealing match with Rey Mysterio this past week!
Each of these men stands a chance at winning the Royal Rumble match. Who do I think will eventually end up as the victor? I would have to say that 'The Kingslayer' Seth Rollins is, to me, the clear favourite.
Let me tell you why I believe this to be the case. The new McMahon regime has been all about giving the fans what they want. Rollins is a WWE superstar who gets a tremendous ovation from the fans, every week. They cannot have a repeat of Royal Rumble of a few years ago when the whole arena groaned in protest as Roman Reigns stood tall and defiant in the centre of the ring!
Also, if you look at the trail of breadcrumbs that WWE has been leaving, you will know that this is the only explanation that makes sense. Seth Rollins took on Dean Ambrose last week in an Intercontinental Championship match and lost the said match. He took on Dean Ambrose and Bobby Lashley in a triple threat match this week and lost that match as well.
It is very rare for the top babyface of any brand to lose so consistently as Rollins has. Seemingly, this is to eliminate him from the Intercontinental Championship picture and elevate him to main event status.
I have a feeling that Royal Rumble 2019 will be the event that builds Seth Rollins into the top guy in the absence of his own stablemate, Roman Reigns. Rollins has proved time and again that he can be the star that WWE can rely on to perform on a weekly basis.
Whom does he face? I think that Brock Lesnar defeats Finn Balor at the Royal Rumble, earning himself a tremendous amount of heat. Seth Rollins steps up and silences the Beast, claiming his rightful throne.
And finally, WWE has a Universal Champion they can potentially get behind!
