WWE Rumor: Is Conor McGregor joining forces with Vince McMahon?
Conor McGregor has had a whirlwind of a year for sure. After he defeated Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship, he immediately was set to face Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 196 for the UFC Lightweight Championship. However, Dos Anjos pulled out of the fight when it was 2 weeks away due to a broken foot, and up came Nate Diaz, who replaced him in what would be a Welterweight bout (170 pounds).
Diaz pulled off the upset and handed the Notorious one his first defeat in the UFC, and this spurred Conor to ask for a rematch, which was set for UFC 200. However, due to Conor not wanting to attend press conferences, he was pulled from the card, and his fight with Diaz was subsequently rescheduled to UFC 202, which would again be a Welterweight fight.
Conor McGregor defeated Diaz by majority decision to avenge his only loss in the UFC. Speaking during the post-fight press conference, Conor made an interesting statement that implied that the WWE could be a possible option.
“The belt situation is lingering. I’ve got to talk…I’m speaking to the new people now [WME-IMG], so I don’t know. I’ve got to talk about what’s next. I’ve got a lot of options, and some might not be in this sport.”
As far as his options in other sports, McGregor could certainly be talking about WWE, but he could also be talking about boxing where he’s had a famous back-and-forth with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. It’s a possibility, although a slim one, that Conor could choose to go that route if things get dicey with the UFC. He teased a bout with Floyd Mayweather a few months ago.
Leading up to his second fight with Diaz, McGregor took shots at WWE, calling them “p*ssies”, and insulting Brock Lesnar as well. He did praise Triple H and VinceMcMahon however, calling them “Dons”. In fact, McGregor often imitates Vince McMahon’s famous strut.
WWE stars, past and present, did not take kindly to McGregor’s comments and fired jabs back at him. Recently, at the WWE 2K17 launch VIP party, Lesnar fired back heavily at Conor for his comments.
