From the WWE Rumor Mill: UK Star signs with WWE

S
Sticking around

What’s the story?

As per PWInsider, former WWE UK Tournament competitor and NXT Star Danny Burch has signed a new contract with WWE.

In case you didn’t know...

Danny Burch originally signed with WWE back in 2011 and worked in developmental until being released in 2014. From then, he returned to the UK independent scene and appeared as a contestant on the second season of TNA Impact Wrestling's British Bootcamp, where he advanced to the top 16.

While appearing on British Bootcamp under his real name, Martin Stone, Danny said that he parted ways with WWE because he was told creative had nothing for him, and he was never given a shot.

He returned to WWE in 2015 as apart of NXT and later, the 2017 UK Tournament, where he was eliminated by Jordan Devlin, but also continued to work UK independent dates.

The heart of the matter

PWInsider is reporting that Danny signed with WWE last month and will continue to work for the company as a fully fledged member of the NXT brand. Danny wrestled his farewell match for the independent scene on Sunday, for Beyond Wrestling and gave a farewell speech.

What's next?

Danny is expected to continue his tag team with Oney Lorcan, and may possibly compete in the upcoming second WWE UK Tournament.

Author's take

I was quite thrilled to hear the reports about Danny signing a full-time contract with WWE. Danny is a very talented wrestler, who, just like he put it during his appearance on British Bootcamp, was never given a shot from WWE during his original run with the company.

As great as a competitor as he is, I don't see Danny ever making it to the main roster, or if he does, just for a tag team run. At 36 years old, I think Danny will compete for WWE as long as he can before accepting a backstage role with NXT as a trainer, once he retires.
