WWE Rumor Roundup: Original plan for The Rock, Cain Velasquez's future, Impact star reportedly signs with company, and more – 5th October 2019
The first show of SmackDown on FOX delivered on several aspects, but fans were a little disappointed in the way Kofi Kingston lost the match.
The big news coming out of the show is UFC fighter Cain Velasquez's debut on the blue brand as well as him interrupting his old rival, Brock Lesnar's victory party.
In today's rumor roundup, we have more details about Velasquez's WWE future and his potential match with Brock Lesnar, original plans for The Rock on SmackDown's debut on FOX, as well as WWE potentially signing a former Impact Wrestling star, and more.
Let's take a look at October 5 WWE rumor roundup.
#1 Original SmackDown plan for The Rock
The Rock made his long-awaited return to WWE television on this week's SmackDown, when he and Becky Lynch berated and mocked Baron Corbin. The Rock returned to WWE television after a gap of three years, with his last appearance coming at WrestleMania 32.
According to Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue, the original plan for The Rock was to feature in a segment with Corbin, and Becky not being a part of it. But, The Rock wanted to share the ring with Becky and hence she was added to the segment in which Corbin was embarrassed.
#2 Cain Velasquez hasn't signed with WWE yet
UFC fighter Cain Velasquez made a shocking appearance on SmackDown after Brock Lesnar's win over Kofi Kingston. Velasquez arrived to the ring with Rey Mysterio, the latter who got a beating at the hands of The Beast earlier this week on RAW.
Velasquez, who defeated Lesnar in the UFC, told ESPN that he hasn't yet signed a contract with WWE and is in "advanced talks" with the company. He revealed that he hasn't retired from UFC yet, but will concentrate on his pro wrestling career.
