WWE Rumor Roundup: Top star to be out of action for six to nine months following injury, Massive future plan for Gunther revealed

Welcome to the latest edition of the daily WWE Rumor Roundup, where we aim to bring you the most prominent rumors and updates from the world of sports entertainment. In today's edition, we will examine some exciting stories revolving around top names like Cody Rhodes, Dakota Kai, and Gunther.

Brock Lesnar brutally attacked Cody Rhodes on RAW this week, leading to Rhodes suffering an arm injury. The American Nightmare was visibly upset after being struck by The Beast Incarnate as his match with Lesnar at Night of Champions hung in the balance. We will take a look at Cody's future, among other exciting topics, in this list.

#3 Cody Rhodes could take time off after Night of Champions

During a conversation on the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer mentioned that due to Rhodes' injury angle, it is likely that the company will need to temporarily keep him out of the action after his match against Brock Lesnar. The two are set to lock horns at Night of Champions on Saturday.

''My guess is that maybe it is a way for Brock to win the second match and Cody to save face, ‘Oh, he fought Brock with a broken arm,’ and they’re split at one win each and they can do another match down the line, or maybe they just make Cody into a big superhero," said Meltzer.

Rhodes is currently embroiled in a bitter rivalry with Brock Lesnar and has already defeated him at Backlash 2023. His injury could lead to him losing at Night of Champions and then taking a break from in-ring action afterward.

#2 Dakota Kai could remain out of action from WWE for six to nine months

According to Dave Meltzer's report on the Wrestling Observer Radio, Kai is scheduled to undergo surgery, resulting in her absence from the ring for at least six months. The recovery period may keep the former WWE Women's Tag Team Champion out of active competition for the remainder of 2023.

"Dakota Kai, I believe, is having surgery tomorrow for a torn ACL. So that’s probably six to nine months out, so best wishes to her."

Following a recent ACL tear during a championship match on SmackDown, Dakota Kai is expected to remain away from in-ring action for the foreseeable future.

Kai's most recent bout took place on the May 12, 2023, episode of SmackDown. Unfortunately, she and Bayley suffered a loss in a Women's Tag Team Championship match against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.

#1 Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther is seemingly being planned for WrestleMania 40

According to a report from WRKD Wrestling, there have been discussions about potentially booking Cody Rhodes to face Gunther in the main event of WWE WrestleMania 40 next year. Should this match come to fruition, the report suggests it would serve as the main event for the RAW roster.

"While it’s still early, discussions have taken place for #WWERAW’s main event for WrestleMania 40 to potentially be Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther. Both superstars have expressed interest in working with each other in the past and are seen as the top face and heel on the RAW roster."

The two men have been on a roll since Royal Rumble 2023, where they were the last two men in the ring. Rhodes won the contest by eliminating The Ring General. Gunther has had a strong showing as the reigning Intercontinental Champion, and WWE seemingly views him as a potential WrestleMania main-eventer.
