WWE is getting some timely reinforcements!
WWE is getting some timely reinforcements!

What's the story?

Kevin Owens returned to action this week on SmackDown but his best friend Sami Zayn isn't lagging behind either when it comes to a comeback.

As revealed on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Zayn is all set to make his WWE return and is expected to feature on weekly programming pretty soon.

In case you didn't know...

Zayn has been out of action since June of last year as he had to undergo surgery to treat rotator cuff and double shoulder injuries.

WWE had previously dropped a teaser on Zayn's return in December, however, the former NXT Champion isn't pushing for his return, as disclosed by the superstar on Chris Jericho's podcast. His long-time friend, Kevin Owens made his much-anticipated comeback this week and was immediately inserted into the WWE title picture.

As announced by Vince McMahon, Owens replaced Kofi Kingston in the WWE championship match against Daniel Bryan at Fastlane 2019.

Owens looked lean upon his return and even changed his finisher to The Stunner during the tag team match in which he teamed up with Kingston to take on Bryan and Rowan.

The heart of the matter

The speculation is rife that Zayn may return to join Owens on SmackDown Live. However, similarOwens returned as a babyface while Zayn was still a heel when he was taken off TV. It should be noted that Owens was also in a similar state prior to his brief time off.

As of this writing, there are no backstage updates regarding the plans for Zayn comeback. We don't even know which brand he will end up joining once he comes back.

The only thing that is certain at this point of time is that Zayn is ready to wrestle again and should be reintroduced to the WWE Universe sooner rather than later.

What's next?

WWE needs all the talent at their disposal on the road to WrestleMania 35 and Zayn's return will only add to WWE's creative headache, which isn't essentially a bad thing.
