What's the story?

Lars Sullivan defeated Lucha House Party via disqualification in a 3-on-1 handicap match at WWE Super ShowDown in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday, June 7.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE changed the finish to the match at the last minute.

In case you didn't know…

Since Lars Sullivan arrived on WWE’s main roster, he has made it his mission to destroy the babyfaces on Raw and SmackDown Live on a weekly basis.

After taking out veterans including Kurt Angle, The Hardy Boyz and R-Truth shortly after WrestleMania 35, “The Freak” has been confronted by Lucha House Party members Kalisto, Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado on multiple occasions in recent weeks.

During the handicap match at WWE Super ShowDown, the Luchas refused to obey the referee’s orders and they ended up losing via disqualification after joining forces to attack Sullivan at the same time in the middle of the ring.

Sullivan then stood tall at the end of the five-minute match after he ambushed all three of his opponents on the ramp.

The heart of the matter

The finish to the WWE Super ShowDown match has been widely criticised by fans, mostly because WWE has built up Lars Sullivan as the company’s next big monster but he was only able to defeat three smaller opponents with the help of a disqualification.

The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer noted that WWE originally planned a different finish to the match in Saudi Arabia and there could be a rematch on Monday’s episode of Raw in San Jose, California.

“I know that in the Lars Sullivan match the finish got changed and the original thing was whatever would have theoretically made sense. What they were going to do and why that changed, I have no idea, but I heard they may be running the match back in San Jose.”

What's next?

Given that the WWE Super ShowDown encounter was Lars Sullivan’s first televised match in over six months, it is safe to assume that we will see him compete in many more matches in the coming weeks.
