WWE Rumors: Bray Wyatt being protected for a future match against a 'Super Guy'
Bray Wyatt has managed to come up with a gimmick that is being billed to be the scariest entity in WWE since The Undertaker and having the Universal title around his waist as has further legitimised the value of the SmackDown Superstar.
The Fiend will defend the Universal Championship against Daniel Bryan at Survivor Series, however, it was initially believed that he would face Brock Lesnar and Adam Cole in a Triple Threat match, which would have been in line with the brand wars theme of the PPV.
Triple H revealed in a recent NXT conference call that the idea of having a triple threat match was pitched, but having Lesnar vs. Mysterio made more sense on paper.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer opened up on the decision to have Wyatt and Bryan in a match at the upcoming Survivor Series show. Meltzer stated that Wyatt should be kept away from Lesnar for a long time. Bray is currently in the midst of a big push and he could be protected for a 'super guy'.
That 'super guy' could be none other than Brock Lesnar. The possibility of Bray Wyatt having a future programme with Roman Reigns was also mentioned by Meltzer. In the end, potential feuds against Lesnar and Reigns are two angles that the company can book somewhere down the line.
"He (Triple H) also said that there was talk of doing Lesnar vs. Cole vs. Wyatt at Survivor Series, but the decision was that Lesnar vs. Mysterio was the right program to continue at this time and that meant they had to do something else with the other two.
"Plus, right now, Wyatt should be kept apart completely from Lesnar for a long time. With the push they are giving Wyatt, they need to protect him for the super guy, and that’s Lesnar, not Reigns, although those would be the two key programs."
As we had reported earlier, Wyatt and Lesnar are not expected to drop the titles at Survivor Series and they could hold onto their respective belts through Royal Rumble.
WWE has invested a lot in building up The Fiend as an unstoppable force, and it should ideally culminate with a big WrestleMania 36 match for the Universal Champion. Reigns or Lesnar? Who would it be?
