WWE Rumors: Broken Gimmick is dead for the time being, they are just "Reborn"

The Hardys haven’t quite used their BROKEN personas since returning to the WWE

What’s the story?

It’s no secret that the ‘Broken’ Hardys aren’t quite broken anymore. Recently, the brothers have been a mixture of their former gimmicks with just a little pinch of their BROKEN personas.

Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter clears the questions regarding the gimmick, with a confirmation in the latest edition of their podcast.

In case you didn’t know....

Matt and Jeff Hardy made their long-awaited return to the WWE at WrestleMania 33 to compete in the ladder match for the RAW Tag Team Titles. To no one’s surprise, the brothers captured the titles and created one of the best Wrestlemania moments of all time.

The question on everyone’s minds since then has been – will the Hardys continue being BROKEN?

The question hasn’t really been answered and as a result, the fans have been confused about it. Matt Hardy has been teasing people by using his signature “DELETE” gesture as well as often conversing in his part-British accent at times, but that’s it. Recently he tweeted the following, hence confusing the fans even more:

The heart of the matter

Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter was recently asked by one of the fans if he had seen the new Hardys’ WWE Tshirt which read “Reborn By Fate” and what it meant for the future of the BROKEN gimmick.

To this, Alvarez replied by saying that it is ‘DEAD’ for the time being. Meaning, we won’t be seeing the Hardys in their full-fledged BROKEN BRILLIANCE anytime soon. However, he did say that if the Hardys are successful in solving the issues with Anthem (the new owners of TNA), regarding the gimmick’s rights, then they can eventually return to playing it on RAW.

What’s next?

Matt Hardy’s love for the gimmick cannot perish easily. So he will probably continue teasing the fans every week on RAW. It seems that the WWE doesn’t have a problem with him doing so, and is even promoting it to some extent.

However, some rumours that surfaced the internet a few weeks ago, suggested that the WWE was happy with what little BROKEN BRILLIANCE was available and did not wish to fall into the legal issues going on between the Hardys and Anthem. This indicates that the Hardys won’t be completely BROKEN anytime soon.

Author’s take

The Broken Hardys were the hottest thing on the independent scene as well as TNA since mid-2016. It’s a shame that they won’t be able to showcase their ‘DELIGHTFUL’ gimmick in the WWE, where it would possibly get more exposure.

I hope the WWE backs the Hardys in their legal battle against Anthem and attain the rights to this masterpiece of a gimmick. If they are successful in attaining it, a plethora of dream matches and segments await.
