WWE Rumors: Carmella was initially set to move over to Raw as part of the Superstar Shake-up
What’s the story?
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE had initially planned to move Carmella to Raw during the recent ‘Superstar shake-up’. However, these plans were eventually scrapped and former Women’s Champion Mickie James became a part of the red brand instead. Carmella moving would reportedly see her reuniting with Enzo & Cass from her NXT days.
In case you didn’t know
Vince McMahon announced on the episode of Raw after WrestleMania 33 that there would be a Superstar shake-up between the red and blue brand.
Heart of the matter
According to the Observer, the creative team almost sealed the swap of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss during the ‘Shake-up’. However, several changes were made to the plans regarding the second female superstar who would be traded from SmackDown to Raw.

‘The Princess of Staten Island’, Carmella, was once considered for that role, but she was replaced by Mickie James. According to the Observer, the former multiple-time Women’s Champion was finalised as the creative team felt Raw ‘needed a veteran’ like her.
What’s next?
Now that the rosters have been finalised, it appears that James Ellsworth and Carmella are set to enter a program with Becky Lynch on SmackDown LIVE.
Author’s take
Following the WWE Draft in 2016, Carmella gradually became a valuable member of the blue brand. She feuded with Nikki Bella, Natalya, and even fought for the Women’s title on multiple occasions.
Carmella has been improving her in-ring skills and eventually developing herself as a Championship calibre performer. Now that she will be staying on the blue brand, it may only be a matter of time before she has gold around her waist.
